About CAA {Citizenship Amendment Act}

The Indian government enacted the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in December 2019. For illegal migrants of Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi, and Christian religious minorities who escaped persecution from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan before December 2014, it offers a route to Indian citizenship. Muslims are excluded by the act, which has provoked protests and intense criticism throughout India. Critics contend that by discriminating against Muslims based on their faith, the law transgresses the secular values contained in India’s constitution. Additionally, they voice concerns about how it would marginalize and leave Muslim minorities stateless, especially in nearby nations.

Supporters of the CAA contend that it is a humanitarian initiative designed to give marginalized people in the nations as mentioned earlier safety from persecution. Opponents, however, see it as a component of the ruling party’s larger plan to disenfranchise and isolate India’s Muslim community. The CAA has generated discussion on a national and international level, bringing to light differences in Indian society on secularism, religion, and citizenship.

However it did not include Muslims, which led to a great deal of controversy and demonstrations throughout India.
